Shimon and Tammar are a husband and wife team that live and work in New York.
" We think about photography as a visual poetry, using light and forms instead words and sentences,"
Photography is about time and light reflecting from matter as colors and forms. We always wonder where is the light source reflected in our dreams coming from? Our starting points are visions and dreams, we are interested in stories, people and relationships, it is about the realization and observation on the effects of our actions on the inner and outer environment.
Photography allowed us to gain each time a new visual perspective and to be present in the process of gradual changes. It is fascinating, to recognize that the human worlds formed from no matter only spirits, intentions, thought desires, visions and dreams, We share with each other our ideas and merge them together."
Shimon was 9 years old when we sold flowers that he picked at a nearby field with his brother on the weekends. He saved enough money to buy his first camera, He bought 2 B&W rolls, got on a bus and took pictures of passing landscapes and building, Unfortunately he did not has enough money do developed and print his first rolls, but his passion for photography grew tremendously, 3 years later Shimon bought his second camera, and shot airplanes departing and landing at the airport. As a toddler Tammar's favorite toys were her father Yashica camera and black and white negatives where she use to stretch and roll while staring at the tiny transparent figures with the white eyes white hair and black teeth, hypnotized by the possibilities of the negatives she started taking pictures at the age 15, using the same Yashica to take pictures of her friends and family, directing them in a surreal imaginary scenes, Shimon and Tamar joined their love and passion of photography and started to collaborate on many subjects together.
"For the past 2 years we have been working on an ongoing project, which integrate Photography with Modern dance, creating a new choreography in the stillness of photography, a performance frozen in an image, maximize the visual impact of the motion, redefining and emphasizing the idea and the roll of photography as a documenting tool of an outer reality in one hand, and the dance as the ultimate art of the continuances passing motions. This is the vast unlimited, unconfined surrounding of the inner world of the mind. We created a surreal landscape that is a reflection of the inner subjective view. the choice of elements and landscapes serves the concept of the choreography, expressing not only the roots of the artistic intention, it's actually complemented the intention by elevating the emotions, the drama and the dynamic expression of both photographer and, character/dancer mind. These are all jointed and linked interpretations.
These private association, become a chain of interpretations a dialog about the utmost basic and powerful life events, our reaction to the harmony and the chaos. This non-material environment of the mind emerges back as material substance.
